Michigan RBs coach Tony Alford visits 5-star Savion Hiter

Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter has established himself as the top-ranked prospect at his position in the 2026 cycle. He’s also worked through his recruitment and is now down to four schools.
Michigan is among the finalists for the 5-foot-11.5, 200-pounder. He’s been to Ann Arbor plenty and has long been a top target for head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines.
Hiter is entering a pivotal stretch in his process with official visits on deck. He’ll return to U-M on the weekend of June 13. Before then, though, Wolverines RBs coach Tony Alford made his way to Virginia this week to check in on the star burner:
Tennessee, Georgia and Ohio State round out the finalists for Hiter. Earlier this month, On3 insiders Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong dished on Hiter’s recruitment, pointing toward Michigan and Ohio State as the two teams in pole position entering the summer.
“Michigan has been considered the team to beat, and they still are at or near the top, but I like Ohio State here coming off spring visits to multiple schools,” Simmons said on May 13. “A lot could rest on the official visits, and Georgia and Tennessee are involved, but this is likely to come down to the Big Ten programs in Ann Arbor and Columbus.”

“They’ve been very consistent,” Hiter’s mother, Aisha, told Wiltfong about the U-M staff. “We’ve built a great relationship with not only coach Tony Alford but the head coach Sherrone Moore as well. Also a lot of the other staff as well.”
Hiter is the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the top-ranked RB and the No. 1 player in Virginia.
Hiter’s official visit schedule is as follows: Ohio State (May 30), Georgia (June 6), Michigan (June 13) and Ohio State (June 20).
The Wolverines landed a commitment from four-star tight end Matt Ludwig on Tuesday. Their 2026 class now features six commits and ranks No. 19 nationally, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Savion Hiter Scouting Summary
On3’s scouting and rankings team writes this of Hiter as a prospect:
“Gifted runner with an advanced blend of athleticism, fluidity, and instincts as a high school underclassman. Physically developed, measuring in at over 5-foot-11 and around 200 pounds prior to his senior season. Registers as a strong athlete, running an 11.11 second mark in the 100-meters as a freshman. Also jumped close to 45 feet in the triple jump – an outstanding mark. Turned multiple dominant seasons as a high school underclassman, including a 1,698-yard, 26-touchdown junior campaign that saw him run for 10.8 yards per carry.
…Looks to be a natural runner. An extremely fluid and smooth mover who changes directions effortlessly. Shows excellent acceleration. Cuts on a dime and makes defenders miss in space. Runs with pace and instincts. A strong tackle-breaker who runs through contact due to a strong leg drive. A phenomenal high school football player who also makes big plays on defense. Has the potential and upside to be one of the best running back prospects in several cycles.”
