Report: Michigan hosts quarterback transfer Jake Garcia on a visit

Quarterback is the biggest question going into next season in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines are still evaluating their options at the position, even bringing in another option from the portal on a visit this week.
Per sources speaking to Matt Zenitz at CBS Sports, QB Jake Garcia has taken a visit to Michigan. That’s after he entered the portal during the spring after spending last season playing for East Carolina.
“Quarterback transfer Jake Garcia visited Michigan this week, a source tells @CBSSports,” Zenitz tweeted on Friday.
Garcia has spent four collegiate seasons at three programs: Miami, Missouri, and East Carolina. He has appeared in 15 games in that career, only for the Hurricanes and Pirates, as he never took the field for the Tigers.
He had one start at ‘The U’ and a handful this past season, prior to being benched for ECU. In that time, Garcia is 188-310 (60.6%) for 2,376 yards, good for 158.4 per game, with 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Most of that came last season in Greenville, completing 60.2% of his throws for 1,426 yards, at 237.7 per game, with eight touchdowns and a dozen picks.
That’s after Garcia, a native of Whittier, California, was a four-star prospect, rated as a top-dozen quarterback recruit, in the 2021 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Now, because of a redshirt, Garcia is looking for a fourth program to play his fifth and final season after entering the portal during the spring window, reportedly skipping practice the day before it opened, in April. He is just outside of the Top 1,000 overall transfers and of the Top 75 QBs per On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players. He is the No. 13 QB among the best available at the position and the No. 1 QB among the ones still available who entered during the spring cycle.
If he were to commit to Michigan, the Wolverines would have another quarterback to consider for this fall. That’s with Bryce Underwood, Mikey Keene (Fresno State, UCF), and Jadyn Davis all competing for the starting job for the maize & blue. Davis Warren and Chase Herbstreit are also on the roster as well.
It appears to currently be a battle between the true freshman star and the transfer in Underwood and Keene but considering all things, like another quarterback taking a visit with the program, nothing is yet decided for the team as far as the depth chart at quarterback.
